The family-owned machine manufacturer Ivarsson's operations in Metsjö started in connection with the need for a new wagon for its own farm outside Linköping in Östergötland during the 1950s. After the Ivarsson brothers had designed their own wagon, based on a truck chassis, neighbors and acquaintances soon began to hear from each other.
All production takes place in Metsjö's facility on the family's farm outside Linköping in Östergötland. Here, the company manufactures most of the machine components from scratch. Today, about 60 years later, the company is run by the second generation and is now led by cousins Per and Anders Ivarsson. Recently, the third generation has also taken a step into the company, which among other things means that Anders' son Loa Ivarsson works more and more. The company's operations are divided into the three parts agricultural carts, mobile storage for gas and chemicals, and machine halls intended for agriculture and industry. The largest of the three parts is the carriages. Since the 50s, they have also gone from buying the truck chassis, to instead manufacturing a large part of the components for the trailers on their own.
- We are blacksmiths at the bottom and thus see an advantage in producing most things in-house from scratch. Today, we manufacture almost 300 wagons a year and to enable customer customization of each wagon, all are built to order, says Anders Ivarsson.
One of Metsjö's latest products is the Metsjö 1460 ROC pickup trolley, which is manufactured as a collaboration between Metsjö and the Italian company ROC. Basically, the trolley solution is based on Metsjö's modular system.
Runs Agriculture
Ivarssons i Metsjö AB starts from the family farm in Metsjö, just north of Linköping. The farm, which is still run by the Ivarsson family, runs the entire company's production and operations. Anders also sees farming as an advantage, as you get an increased understanding of the customers' operations and the opportunity to identify needs and solutions themselves. Today, the company has 75 employees and an extensive product range. Metsjö's philosophy is based on selling and manufacturing trolleys based on a modular system, which can thus be built and adapted to the customer's demand.
- We do not want a ready-made locked range, but we want to be flexible so that we can meet the needs of all customers. By having a modular system, the customer also has the opportunity to adapt their trolley so that it can be suitable for several purposes during the year, says Anders.
Anders Ivarsson owns and runs the company together with his cousin Per Ivarsson.
Fluctuating market
Just as for other agricultural machine manufacturers, Metsjö has also been hit by a reduced order intake during the past year. This is especially noticeable in the company's export markets.
- When the market is at its peak, we deliver about half of what we produce abroad. This year, this proportion has fallen, says Anders.
