Repairing a badly torn pin mount boss on an extend-a-hoe boom for a 410 John Deere backhoe
Comment: Cat911 = I think you should of tried and straighten it out first before you welded it. If you couldn”t put it in a press, you could of used the forklift to get it straight. Other then that the piece you are welding back in is the top of the boom. I would of used Hard Faceing wire. It is more exspensive but it is made for jobs like this. Mig is great for a shop job but, stick is the Best for Field appilcations.
Comment: Mike +Cat911 Hi Mark, believe me, there was not going to be any way to be able to press this thing back into its original form without some sort of multi multi ton hydraulic press, honest. Hard facing wire is for hard facing, not for welding, this job did not require any hard facing to be performed, it only needed welding. In this case, yes, MIG was the most efficient way to get the job completed. Thanks for the comment ….Mike
