Wreck removal of M/V Cabrera and Salvage of her cargo on Andros island. Shore cleaning operation by specialized team.
The CABRERA flagship ANTIGUA BARBUDA, with nine crewmen, had sailed from Larymna bound for Trento, Finland, loaded with 3,500 metric tons of ferro-nickel in the form of bullet.
On Christmas Eve of 2016 the ship escaped to the north of Andros due to bad weather conditions and the crew was removed from the ship with the assistance of a Greek navy helicopter.
The cargo ship ran aground and sank on the north coast of Andros, Greece at a depth of 35 meters and 100 meters from the coast. It was lifted by a special 2,400-ton crane that had come from the Netherlands for this purpose in October 2017. It is noted that the remaining pieces of the wreck remained in the sea. To date, 2,800 tonnes of ferro-nickel have been recovered.
