The GBU-12 Paveway II is a US-made Paveway series laser-guided weapon based on the Mk 82 multipurpose bomb.
Entered into service in 1976, it has been used by the US military and various NATO troops.
The laser is held towards the target from the aircraft or
the ground and provides guidance thanks to the optical eye in front of the bomb.
Laser-guided bombs are referred to as "smart bombs",
although they require laser marking of the target from the outside in order to work.
