Comments: - - Though I've given into finance sector fort my career... The love for megastructures hasn't gone anywhere from me :) ... Engineers like these deserve applause all around !
Considering the gravity of the situation, this is quite uplifting. Having been forced to suspended my disbelief, I was not let down.
I am always amazed by these huge undertakings, like the Golden Gate Bridge and skyscrapers. It takes some serious imagination to believe that it can be done.
Although it’s astonishing to see the engineering to lift heavy things. We can only be in awe when we realise the weight involved in some ancient buildings. It far exceeds the maximum lifting capacity of modern machinery.
It's more awesome to see how this giant machine is designed and put together than it is just all put together and sitting there. I can't help but wonder what evolves from this.
If we were in the 80`s and 90`s, Hollywood would make a movie about crane operators and the dangers involved in these jobs, but today is all about flying superheroes and end of the world stuff. These crane operators are heroes on my book, the skill and concentration level to do this job is something to not take for granted.
Thinking back when I was young and worked in this industry. We were moving boom sections for a 150 ton Manitowoc. Operator had it up about 7 feet and the choker snapped. The damn thing hit the ground about 12 inches from my foot.
