Load bank testing a Caterpillar 2000 kW Diesel Generator at our facility in Brighton, CO. This unit features a massive 3516 V-16 engine, and is controlled by an easy-to-use digital panel.
Comments: - I've been watching lot of off gridding videos because it's my goal to eventually go off grid and use 100% renewable energy, and I keep getting recommendations for videos of these big CAT diesel generators. Now I kind of want one. Good backup for cloudy days. :
No diesel particulate filter on that thing ! It blows a huge cloud going from start up to synchronous speed (1200?) and then another huge cloud when it starts generating.

Built a power plant for the Navy. We had two of these beasts installed about 6 feet apart. When they were running, it was so loud, you could actually feel the sound vibrations in your chest. And they had remote radiators, so no radiator fans on the engine. Even with ear plugs, plus ear muffs, they were LOUD!
Why does it take so long to spin down? Does it have a massive flywheel or compression release? I would've thought a diesel (being high compression) would spin down. It's really cool.
