I remember a watching documentary on the last of the R.A F's AVRO Shackletons.
The interviewer asked a youngish pilot would he miss them. The pilot retorted...
" What ? Flying Rolls Royce engines sitting in a leather seat...It doesn't get any better than that !" Interviewers were proper mugs for asking stupid questions even back then
In the USSR, the Merlin engine was well known. They were operated and repaired until the early 50s of the twentieth century. And as visual aids, they also met in the 70s.
Interesting engines - it seems strange that a couple of the engines developed by Wright are attributed to Pratt and Whitney.
for some reason, these piston aircraft engines, feels so much nicer than jet engines...i dont know why..they just feel 'right' somehow..
I suppose, WWll La5fh had almost the same as Nos 3-4, or I'm mistaken?
I can’t imagine they started the P&W w out a prop hub fitted…
