Thursday morning in the Grand Turks the Carnival Freedoms smokestack caught fire. I was aboard the starboard side and captured this footage from the Carnival Mardis Gras. The Carnival Conquest came to retrieve the remaining passengers of that ship, and our ship took on some non essential crew from the Freedom. Nobody hurt. No official statements I believe,
I was actually on the Mardi Gras as this was happening and the Mardi Gras was delayed till 8:00 pm but 60 of the Carnival Freedoms passengers came abroad our ship and the rest were picked up two days later. I am glad the wind was blowing the other way or it would of been bad.
Me and my wife were in our cabin on the 7th level on the morning of this fire. Big shout out to Captain Mario and his crew they did a great job and took good care of us, for the 2 days we waited for the Conquest to arrive.
Three years ago in 2019 I went on a cruise with Norwegian sun to the Bahamas and we actually parked right next to this carnival freedom ship. Little did I know back then I would see the same ship three years later on fire. Carnival really needs to invest into some new ships in order to maintain clientele trust
