Its very interesting to see just how important the barrel really is for a shotgun but also how dangerous these shells still are even without one. The last one in particular looked pretty deadly in comparison to the others. Really well done experiment!
I've heard of a gasoline engine described as a 'series of controlled explosions' and that the energy of the explosion is focused in one direction to push on the pistons. It is interesting to see how taking a shotgun shell out so that the force of the explosion is largely in all directions drastically reduces the amount of force on the projectiles. Excellent, as always!
The brass screws really made your device look nice! I knew the outcome b4hand, since I played withguns and ammo since I was a kid. Perhaps an old school brass shell would throw the projectile a little harder, it is in itself a little bit like a barrel.
I have wondered for a long time the outcome of this, being that the bullets do not have a spiraled barrel to spin them, versus them exploding in different directions, the first ones hit harder than I expected, thanks for sharing.
Did you use the same sheet of 'grid' plastic for all the shots? I'm wondering if the repeated blows might have stressed it and finally cracked. Pretty sure I saw a few dents in the wood board which piqued my curiosity.
