cOMMENTS: - - While at the White House on a daily assignment, was very fortunate to observe Ospreys and Choppers together performing approaches, landings and take offs in groups of four on the mall opposite the grounds. What a sight. Another highlight was the decoys buzzing the Eisenhower Bldg. speed from the north when Marine One lifted off from the south lawn with the President and join up on the approach to the Washington Monument as they headed out.
This video couldn’t be more inaccurate if it tried. Marine One has never been, and never will be a V22. These aircraft are used as support for Marine One. This role used to belong to CH-53’s and CH-46’s, with the V22’s arriving in around 2011. I know this, because I worked there when they arrived.
The Osprey must have had a whole new design work over of the tilt rotor because the program had some major design flaws at first rollout. Wasn’t the Osprey put on what could be deemed as a ‘major diet’ overall? The Apache with its many systems always fascinates because of the radar dome on top making it easily recognizable. Both units are very distinct ways. Interesting video.
Just love it, unloading an $80 million dollar helicopter out of a more expensive aircraft and we use scrap pieces of plywood to make up the difference on the ramp, this should be on modern marvels, great job guys, gotta love our military!!!!!
I have pictures that I took in 2009 of the MV-22 in presidential colors doing touch and goes at the helo pad in lower Manhattan. This may be new build A/C but they have used them since at least 2009! There were several in the pattern along with presidential H-3's.
