I visited the Red River Army depot several times in the 2000’s until2012. The amount of surplus EVERTHING was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. From small items like tools and boots etc. to thousands of heavy equipment. It was hard to comprehend. And this is just one depot of dozens, that we know of, in the continental US.
Reminds me of my time as Regular Force Support Staff to Canadian Army Reserves training in Ft Lewis (beautiful base). Went to Lewis Range Control and upon exiting noticed 2 tank trains block away - wanted to see. Capt I was with asked why I was in awe - my reply was these trains had more panzers than our entire army. Ft Lewis staff always treated us well
I spent a lot of time in the Ops Section …. Thinking it was the “nerve center” and thus it was the most important … I learned later and truly now appreciate the fact that logistics drives the train, no beans, no bullets, no gas NO WAR …
The military power of the US just blows my mind. In Canada, southern Ontario, one rarely sees anything military. Once in a while in the summer a few trucks may go by., Say what you want about the Americans, but it ain't a bad thing having them next door. That is, until they want our water.
