The ship may look operable, but this vessel, built in 1972, is from an era of primitive bulk carriers which had a variety of structural weaknesses. In the 1990s a spate of sinkings occurred, resulting in amendments to the SOLAS treaty. Many bulk cargoes are vulnerable to moisture intrusion, and not just because of freshness concerns. Some materials including cement can become liquids when wet and destabilize a vessel. This old ship was probably corroding and just not safe to operate any longer.
my greatest respect for all this very hard-working wrecker-crews - great thanks for showing this movie !
One of the most dangerous jobs on this planet: Shipbreaker. Many injuries and deaths, training happens on the job, almost no safety equipment except maybe a hardhat, no health care, no insurance. Those men risk their life every day for recycling of metals. That deserves great respect.
The irony of man. We spent so many hours building a ship, then we spent as many hours dismantling it.
Disintegrating that gigantic mass with a blowtorch, a hammer and a chisel....What a nightmare!
Il sont où la les ecolo il nous font chier en Europe mais la il y a personne ???
Hard and very dirty work. Old engine oil, leftover fuel, tons of grease under decks. The most valuable thing is the anchors made of a special metal alloy. Workers are at high risk of tetanus.
Amidst all of that chaos, why would they bother with hard hats?
